How to look after your conservatory during autumn

Categories: Blog Posts, Tiled Conservatory Roof

Your conservatory is a fantastic addition to your home, no matter the season. However, there is something truly special about sitting in your conservatory as the evenings start to get colder, snuggled under a blanket, steaming hot drink in hand.

Here at Total Roofcare, we know that your conservatory can require special attention, especially during the autumn and winter months. So, to keep it looking pristine we have put together our “how to” guide for conservatory care.

Leaks in the roof

One of the most common problems with your conservatory during the autumn has to be leaks. If your guttering is full of debris, then this can cause rainwater to back up and eventually leak through your conservatory roof.

This issue can get even worse as the leaves start to fall off the trees; so it is important that you pay attention to any build up on the roof. If you are concerned by this issue, then you could install a leaf guard at the top of your downpipes.

Clean off the glass

Over the summer months, you may find that dust can gather on the roof and windows of your conservatory. It is a good idea to give your glass a good clean to ensure that all this dust is removed. We recommend only using a hose to remove the dust. If you scrub the glass then you may remove any protective coating.

Dust off those cobwebs

The autumn months are known to be spider season; if this is something that bothers you then you will want to keep on top of any cobweb build up. Use a soft brush to remove any cobwebs, paying particular attention to any corners where they like to gather.

Give it a check over

Whilst spring may be the season of cleaning, autumn can become the season for conservatory maintenance. Take the time to check over the gaskets and seals, all of which can let in the cold air and lead to issues with waterproofing too.

Install a ThermeRoof

For a more long term solution to any seasonal conservatory issues, you may find that a ThermeRoof is the answer. This insulated and tiled conservatory roof not only keeps the temperature of the conservatory even, but also makes it easier to maintain your roofing and keep it looking clean and tidy.
